Georgia Tech’s School of Computational Science and Engineering hosted a distinguished lecture by Vipin Kumar, a Regents' Professor at the University of Minnesota, Friday, March 2, 2018 at the Marcus Nanotechnology Building.
Kumar's lecture, Big Data in Climate and Earth Sciences: Challenges and Opportunities for Machine Learning, discusses the various challenges involved in analyzing the massive data sets on Earth's environment, and the opportunities they present for advancing machine learning, as well as the science of climate change, in the context of monitoring the state of the tropical forests and surface water on a global scale.
